As one would imagine, the Family Court requires certain decorum, including appropriate attire. As in most life experiences, looking your best allows you to make a good impression.
Court attire should consist of a suit or other suitable professional business attire. At least, men should wear a collared shirt and professional pants; women should wear an appropriate dress or career separates. We recommend closed-toe shoes or other appropriate professional footwear. Court dress codes can vary by county, but the following items should NEVER be worn into court:
- hats;
- flip flops or slippers;
- shorts or skorts;
- skirts or dresses shorter than 2 inches above the knee;
- tank tops, strapless tops, or spaghetti-strap tops;
- t-shirts;
- jeans;
- pajama pants or other lounge pants;
- excessively dirty or stained clothing.
If you do not have appropriate court attire, please consider purchasing proper attire from Goodwill. A suitable outfit can be purchased at an extremely low cost.
